Selma Björnsdóttir urodziła się 13 czerwca 1974 roku w Reykjaviku. W dzieciństwie występowała w zespole wokalno-tanecznym w Garðabær. W wieku 10 lat wystąpiła w operze Arka Noego. Dwukrotnie reprezentowała Islandię w Konkursie Piosenki Eurowizji. W 1999 będąc jedną z czołowych faworytek do zwycięstwa, zajęła ostatecznie 2. miejsce z liczbą 146 punktów. Jej wynik, wyrównany w 2009 roku przez Yohannę, to najwyższe miejsce Islandii w Konkursie. W 2005 roku ponownie otrzymała bilet na Eurowizję. Z utworem If I had your love znów startowała z pozycji faworytki, jednak tym razem nie udało jej się awansować do finału. W 2006 roku ponownie pojawiła się na Konkursie, tym razem jako towarzyszka kontrowersyjnej Silvii Night. Od 2009 roku Selma zasiada w jury islandzkiej edycji Idola.
